Torrential rain warning: Civil Protection advise staying indoors in Baix Llobregat, Anoia, and Alt Penedès

Civil Protection has sent an ES-Alert to mobile phones in Baix Llobregat, Anoia, and Alt Penedès, advising people not to go outdoors until around 1pm, pending further notice.

"Do not go outside. Do not go to retrieve your car. Do not go down into basements. If the water reaches you, move to higher ground. If you are outdoors, take shelter in a safe place," the message reads.

The storms have concentrated in this area and have already caused significant levels of torrential rainfall.

Across Catalonia, the 112 emergency service has received 115 calls.

The Catalan Water Agency has issued warnings about the possibility of sudden rises in river and stream levels in Anoia and Alt Penedès.

The alert threshold for the Anoia River at Sant Sadurní d'Anoia has been exceeded, and the Ebro Hydrographic Confederation (CHE) has stepped up monitoring along the southern and western coastal and pre-coastal areas.

The rains are also disrupting the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) network; the R6 line is not operating between Masquefa and Piera. Alternative road transport is being arranged for the affected section, according to FGC.

Renfe has suspended high-speed and medium-distance train services in Catalonia between 9 and 11am as a "precautionary measure" to prioritize passenger safety.
