Torrential rain leaves record of 7.8 liters of rainfall in one minute in northern Catalonia
112 emergency hotline receives almost 200 calls due to storm

The northern part of Catalonia has registered significant torrential rain with records of between 30 and 60 liters in central Catalonia and counties in Girona. La Quar, in the county of Berguedà in the central north, registered 7.8 liters of rainfall in one minute, at 5:27 am on Saturday.
The record breaks the previous one registered in Montserrat-Sant Dimes on September 4, 2014, with 7.6 liters of rainfall.
The meteorological station in Quar also registered wind gusts of up to 95 km/h, and 26.1 liters of rainfall in just five minutes, surpassing August 12, 2019's all-time high in Cunit, south of Barcelona, when it recorded 24.7 liters in five minutes.
Until 10 am on Saturday, the 112 emergency hotline received around 200 phone calls. Most of them, in the Barcelonès county with 52 calls, followed by Gironès' 47 calls, and Bages' 34 calls.
Firefighters intervened in 72 incidents between 10 pm Friday and 10 am Saturday, most of them in Girona (43). Most of the events involved flooding and tree falls.
