Teachers and students across Catalonia will go on strike on February 11, as part of several actions and protests calling for better working conditions.

The announcement came by several unions, such as USTEC, Professors de Secundària (High School teachers), CCOO, CGT, and UGT, after leaving a meeting with the education ministry to negotiate these improvements.

Unions will first organize a large demonstration on January 24, ahead of various protests expected for the following days.

They criticize the ministry for not proposing any improvements to their salaries.

"The ministry came empty-handed, no proposal at all on salaries and a plan to modify the current working agreement," Iolanda Segura, USTEC spokesperson, told media outlets after the meeting.

The education sector will first hold a demonstration on Saturday, January 24, before going on strike on February 11.

"We will not stop if the public administration continues without offering a salary improvement that helps us leave these precarious conditions," Segura added.

Ignasi Fernández, secretary general of Professors de Secundària, said that the ministry broke all negotiation tactics.

"When someone goes to negotiate, and they tell you that they will offer you nothing, it means that they are not open to negotiation," he said.
