Study says you're more likely to be robbed in Barcelona than any other Spanish city
Spain also has highest incidence rate in Europe, with 132 robberies per 100,000 inhabitants

You're more likely to be robbed in Barcelona than any other Spanish city, according to the latest data published on Monday by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.
The study indicates that in the Catalan capital, the probability of suffering a robbery is 2.9 times higher than the national average.
In the EU, the figure is only surpassed by Bucharest, where the probability of being a victim of a theft is 3 times higher than the Romanian average.
The data refers to the year 2022 and says Spain has the highest incident rate of robberies of all countries in the continent, with 131.8 thefts per 100,000 inhabitants. This is followed by Belgium, with 103.3, France (99.8), and Luxembourg (98.6).
According to Eurostat's official data, there were 253,247 robberies in the EU in 2022.
The same study also indicated that 1 in 10 EU inhabitants declared that crime, violence, or vandalism in their area represented a problem for their home during 2023.
However, despite leading the rate of theft crimes in Spain, Barcelona also ranked in 2023 as the fourth city in Europe where tourists spent the most nights, with a total of more than 27 million overnight stays. Only Paris (75.5), Rome (37.3), and Berlin (29) recorded higher figures.
