This spring, which officially ended on Saturday, was the fifth in the 21st century with the most tropical nights, defined as nights when temperatures do not drop below 20°C.

According to an analysis by the Catalan News Agency (ACN) based on data from the Catalan weather service, Meteocat, this spring brought high nighttime temperatures across the region.

A total of 78 weather stations in Catalonia recorded at least one tropical night this spring, meaning nearly 43% of the region's stations detected these events.

The Raval neighborhood in Barcelona experienced the highest number, with residents enduring 21 tropical nights. The first occurred on May 30, and every night since then has met the tropical threshold.

Seventeen other weather stations, particularly along the coast and in southern Catalonia, set new records for the number of tropical nights in spring.

Badalona recorded 17 tropical nights, while Amposta in southern Catalonia had 14, the highest number this century for that location.

Other towns in the Tarragona region, including Alcanar, Benissanet, L’Aldea, L’Ametlla de Mar, and Ulldecona, also experienced a notable number of tropical nights.

In contrast, residents in Lleida, Girona, and inland areas of central Catalonia had a much easier time sleeping, with only a few weather stations registering tropical nights and a more general decrease in nighttime temperatures.

Despite below-average rainfall across all stations, water reservoirs in Catalonia rose significantly: from 50% to 80% capacity between March and June.
