Record 700m metro and bus journeys in Barcelona in 2025
TMB registered 220m passengers on bus and almost 480m on metro

Public transport use continues to rise in Barcelona, with 2025 marking another record-breaking year.
The Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) network, which operates Barcelona’s metro and bus services, closed the year with a historic total of 700.5 million journeys, an increase of 2.4% compared to 2024.
The metro network recorded nearly 480 million validations, its highest figure to date, while bus services also set a new record with 220.6 million validations.
In a statement, TMB explained that demand growth was particularly strong outside peak hours, especially in the afternoons, on Sundays, and on public holidays.
TMB president Laia Bonet said the figures demonstrate citizens' "trust in public transport" and stressed the need to continue improving services in order to meet growing mobility demands.
Among the standout moments of the year was October, which set a monthly record with nearly 46 million journeys.
Sant Jordi's Day, on April 23, also marked a historic milestone, becoming the busiest working day ever for the TMB network, with 2.6 million journeys.
Meanwhile, the weekend of November 22 was the busiest in TMB’s history, coinciding with the switch-on of the Christmas lights and FC Barcelona’s return to Camp Nou.
The bus network also achieved a daily record on a public holiday during the La Mercè celebrations, with 356,000 validations in a single day.
All these records coincided with the celebration of the Metro network's centenary, marked throughout the year with a wide range of activities and events.
