The state-owned railway company Renfe has reinforced its service on the R2 line that serves Barcelona airport. Due to the ongoing taxi drivers’ strike, mobility for citizens and tourists going to or from the facility has been reduced.

Renfe stated on Sunday that the number of places on the northbound R2 have been increased by 25%. This is 9,000 more available spaces than usual, bringing the total number of seats to 45,000 on a daily basis.

This measure will be maintained for as long as taxi drivers in Barcelona and the metropolitan area continue to strike.

In addition, there will also be double decker trains placed at the city’s Estació de França train station, as well as in neighbouring Hospitalet.

The government has also announced that it is reinforcing the L9 metro service between the capital and the airport on Sunday, increasing the frequency to the weekday standard.
