R2, R2 Nord and R11 trains return to service after sinkhole incident at Montcada i Reixac

The R2, R2 Nord and R11 train lines are back in service between Sant Andreu and Montcada i Reixac. 

The services were back running the morning of Sunday, July 26. 

The trains stopped their services on Wednesday, July 22, at noon, when there was a partial collapse of a wall in one of the shafts at the underground works in Montcada i Reixac, on the border with Barcelona.

The collapse was considered repaired on Saturday, and following several hours of test runs on passengerless trains, the line was opened back up to the public. 

Since Wednesday, workers had been stabilizing the ground using concrete and mortar. 

There is also a temporary speed limitation in the affected area in effect.

Rail infrastructure management company Adif reported on Saturday, July 25, that surveys carried out confirmed there were no ground movements or damage to the railway platform or surrounding buildings. 

The company will keep monitoring the area and continue the technical investigation to determine the cause. 

Saturday also saw the return of water flow from Rec Comtal, which was restored after the water was diverted while the area was stabilized.
