The Vatican has confirmed that Pope Leo XIV will visit Spain next June 6-12, and that the schedule will include a visit to Barcelona.

The Pope's exact agenda will be announced in due course, the Holy See added, but the dates coincide with the official inauguration of the Tower of Jesus Christ of the Sagrada Família, scheduled for June 10.

June 10 this year is also the centenary of architect Antoni Gaudí's death.

Vatican News, for its part, reports that Leo XIV will first visit Madrid, then Barcelona, and finally the Canary Islands.

Back in April 2025, the late Pope Francis took the first steps to beatify Antoni Gaudí in the Catholic Church.

Popularly known as 'God's architect,' the Catholic Church now considers him "venerable," which is the first step towards beatification and canonization.

Sagrada Família was consecrated by Pope Benedict XVI in 2010.
