Catalan Mossos d'Esquadra police have taken down cybercriminal group RansomHouse's website, as was first reported by Ara newspaper and confirmed by the Catalan News Agency (ACN) on Tuesday morning.

This operation was similar to that which took place shortly after the attack on Hospital Clínic, a major public hospital in Barcelona, in which officers were able to block two of the servers the hackers were using.

Catalonia's Cybersecurity Agency informed ACN that it had not assisted police, but was aware of what had taken place.

This comes only days after RansomHouse published some of the sensitive data they had stolen from the hospital after Catalan authorities refused to pay a $4.5 million ransom. This information was available for free on the dark web.

The cyberattack on the hospital's virtual servers was detected in early March, stopping thousands of elective surgeries and outpatient visits, including radiotherapy for cancer patients, from taking place as scheduled.
