Catalan police, the Mossos d'Esquadra, are investigating the death of Mango founder Isak Andic as a possible homicide, according to El País newspaper.

Andic, who was the richest person in Catalonia at the time of his death, was initially thought to have died in a mountain accident.

His son, Jonathan Andic, the only person present when the businessman fell from a cliff while hiking, is now being investigated as a suspect.

Although the death was first ruled an accident, the investigation has shifted toward the possibility of homicide by his son.

Multiple inconsistent statements from Jonathan, combined with a suspicious behavior, have prompted this change in the investigation.

Police are now exploring other leads, and Jonathan's phone has been seized and is being examined.

Despite the information reported by El País, the High Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) said on Friday that the investigation is not directed against any specific individual.

In a statement, it added that the investigation is being handled by the police and that the case remains confidential.

In a statement, the family expressed confidence in Jonathan's innocence.

"The Andic family is confident that this process will conclude as soon as possible and that Jonathan Andic's innocence will be proven," they said.

The family also emphasized that they have not commented on the case and do not intend to, but they wish to show respect for the proceedings carried out so far and stressed that they will continue to cooperate with the authorities, as they have done until now.

Isak Andic

Born in Istanbul (Turkey) in 1953, Andic emigrated with his family to Barcelona during his youth.

He founded Mango in 1984, a company that would become one of the most recognized fashion brands worldwide, with a presence in over 100 countries and hundreds of stores around the globe.

The success of the company made him the wealthiest Catalan, with a fortune of €2.7 billion in 2023.

He received numerous awards, such as the Creu de Sant Jordi, the Gold Medal for Merit in Labour, the National Fashion Award, and the Medal of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce.

At the time of his death, he was serving as the non-executive president of Mango.
