The Catalan police are searching for the owner of the 8,800 beer bottles found in a damaged truck that was abandoned on the AP-2 highway in Vinaixa, central Catalonia.

The police are holding 370 boxes of Corona beer at a police station after locating the truck with an exploded tire. The driver of the truck was nowhere to be seen.

Mossos believes the beers were stolen from an international delivery, a parcel with a destination outside of Spain. The boxes were carried around individually and disorganized, making them believe it was part of a robbery. Perpetrators would have been forced to leave the beer behind after the truck broke down.

Law enforcement agents run into three individuals, alleged thieves, a few kilometers away from the truck. Two of them are repeat offenders for similar robberies. All of them inside a van, and near another car with another destroyed tire.

The three alleged thieves denied having any relation to the beer bottles, although the van had several cutters and cutting tools.

Agents did not receive any robbery warning and, with several officers, inspected the area and nearby restaurants to see if there was any damaged truck. But they did not find it.

Catalan public broadcaster TV3 reports that if the owner is not found, police would destroy the beers or gift them to Vinaixa's city council. Donating them had been ruled out due to being alcoholic products.
