Police find body in search for missing American student James Gracey

The Catalan police have confirmed that the body found in the sea in Somorrostro Beach in Barcelona on Thursday afternoon is that of James Gracey, the 20-year-old American who had been missing since Tuesday morning.

The discovery was made as part of a search operation that began early in the morning, with the participation of the underwater unit of the Mossos d'Esquadra and the maritime police, who had been searching the area for hours.

The Civil Guard and the Barcelona Fire Department also collaborated in the operation.

Authorities have opened investigations to clarify the circumstances of the events. The case remains open to determine the cause of death.

The body was located after several dives by specialists, who had focused their search around the Olympic Port following the indications collected during the investigation.

Once the body was found, Catalan police confirmed that it was James Gracey, 20 years old, the young American student who was missing since Tuesday morning.
