Catalan Mossos d'Esquadra police broke into a Barcelona apartment on Friday evening not long after 8:15 pm to free two people who were being held against their will.

The officers forced their way into the building on Amigó street in the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi district after hours of unsuccessful talks with the kidnappers, arresting three people.

Police sources explained that they had received a call shortly before 5:15 pm alerting them to the fact that someone was being held hostage.

After going to the apartment in question they were able to confirm the veracity of the information and more officers, including some from the Mossos' Special Intervention Group (GEI) and negotiators from the Kidnapping and Extortion Unit, were sent to the site of the kidnapping.
