Grand Départ kicks off in Barcelona

The 2026 Tour de France kicked off in Catalonia, with Barcelona hosting a team time trial on Saturday, July 4.
Jaume Collboni, the mayor of Barcelona, said that the start of the Tour de France has been "without a doubt the most important event" that Barcelona has experinced since the 1992 Olympic Games.
Collbani continued on to thank the citizens for their "patience" with mobility restrictions and assured that it was all "worth it" to be able to see "a sporting spectable like this close to home."
The Grand Départ in Barcelona "marks a milestone that we will all remember in the history of events in Barcelona," said Collboni.
Stage one was a 19.6 km route through the city, from Fòrum to the Olympic Stadium.
Tarragona hosted the racers next, with the start line for stage two in the southern Catalan city.
168.5 km later the race ended in Barcelona, with three laps of Montjuïc hill on Sunday, July 5.
Monday, July 6 sees the end of the Tour's time in Catalonia, with a 195.9 km route starting in Granollers and finishing in Les Angles, France.
