With the festive period coming to an end after the arrival of the Three Wise Men and the eating of Kings' Day cakes, Barcelona City Council has announced it will have 227 points across the city where members of the public can drop off their Christmas trees for recycling

The sites cover all ten districts of the Catalan capital and are open from January 7 to 17

The council urges people to make use of the drop-off points rather than using their normal refuse containers or abandoning their Christmas trees on the street. Residents are asked to remove all decorations before depositing their trees.

Last year the council collected a total of 9,526 Christmas trees, which were taken to the municipal nursery. They produced 183 cubic meters of mulch that was subsequently used throughout the city's parks and green spaces.
