From Thursday onwards, nursing home residents in Catalonia will not be allowed out for day trips or weekend visits with family members or friends – in fact, only trips that are over three weeks long will be permitted, although shorter ones will be allowed under exceptional circumstances.

This is the latest Health Department and Social Affairs Department measure passed in an attempt to protect the elderly from Covid-19 infections, which will also see those returning from approved trips take PCR diagnostic tests and remain in isolation for 10 days.

Friends and family will still be allowed to visit the elderly, although nursing homes may be restricted or suspended visits for public health reasons after informing health authorities and family members of the decision.
