One in four Catalans at risk of poverty or social exclusion
Rate rises after four consecutive years of decline, with children under 16 most affected, at over 36%

One in four people in Catalonia are at risk of poverty or social exclusion, according to the 2025 Living Conditions Survey published by Idescat.
The rate has risen by eight tenths of a percentage point compared with 2024, reversing a four-year trend of continuous decline.
The situation has worsened particularly among children under 16, for whom the rate has climbed to 36%, up 1.3 percentage points from the previous year.
The share of the population reporting severe social and material deprivation has increased to nearly 9%.
By contrast, the proportion of people who say they are unable to keep their home at an adequate temperature, almost 17%, and those who report difficulties making ends meet, 47%, has declined.
The data also show that the risk of poverty is higher in households with dependent children, where it reaches nearly 31%.
Among people of foreign nationality, almost half are at risk of poverty or social exclusion, a similarly high rate to that recorded among the unemployed.
