Mural of Ferran Torres World Cup celebration vandalized in Barcelona 

A mural dedicated to Spanish national team and FC Barcelona player Ferran Torres was painted and quickly vandalized on Tuesday. 

On Monday, July 20, the Barcelona-based urban artist TVBoy painted a mural dedicated to the player who scored the decisive goal that gave Spain their victory in the 2026 World Cup final over Argentina. 

During the celebration of the victory, Torres was seen wearing a hat with the slogan "Make Spain Great Again."

The painting depicted an image of Torres kissing the World Cup trophy beneath the English words "Making history" underlined with two stars, symbolising the two Spanish World Cup titles.  

The mural was painted in Joanic Square in the Gràcia neighborhood of Barcelona after the World Cup win on Sunday. 

By Wednesday, there had been three different images on the wall. First the artwork was painted over white and marked with the message "Puta Espanya," that was later covered up and the message simply said "Espanya," and Wednesday morning the wall read "volem seleccions catalanes" (we want Catalan national teams). 

The Barcelona City Council cleaning services cleaned the wall and painted it fully black again. 

According to TVBoy, as he was painting the mural "A girl passed by and shouted; 'Mom, it’s Ferran Torres!' I smiled. Then I understood that art also connects generations."

The mural was only on the wall for a little over 24 hours.
