A search is underway for a 25-year-old man from the United Kingdom who is believed to have gone missing in Tossa de Mar, on the Costa Brava.

Catalan police, the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police), local police, and the fire service are participating in the search.

According to Ràdio Girona – Cadena SER, and confirmed by the Catalan News Agency (ACN), officers found a van believed to belong to the man at a scenic viewpoint near Tossa de Mar, on the road between Tossa and Sant Feliu de Guíxols, though there was no sign of the man himself.

On Thursday morning, the Mossos activated their maritime police unit and a helicopter to boost the search operation, with firefighters launching drones.

Family report man missing

The Mossos d'Esquadra received an alert on Wednesday evening from Interpol, after the man's family reported him missing in the UK.

His phone had been last located in Tossa de Mar, prompting Catalan police to begin their search that same evening.

Before nightfall, police located the van believed to belong to the man at the Tossa de Mar viewpoint.

According to some sources, the vehicle had been abandoned for several days, with no trace of the missing individual.

On Thursday morning, the search effort was expanded with additional units.

The Mossos deployed maritime police to search the waters near the coast, as the van was found close to an area with steep cliffs.

A helicopter continues to fly over the area, and firefighters are operating drones to reinforce the aerial search.
