Catalonia is preparing for its second heatwave of the summer.

The Meteorological Service of Catalonia (Meteocat) has issued warnings for the heatwave expected between Sunday, July 5 and at least Wednesday, July 8.

Monday and Tuesday will be the hottest days during that period.

Temperatures are expected to exceed 40ºC in some Plana de Lleida areas in western Catalonia

In the rest of the Central and Pre-Pyrenean depression, temperatures will exceed 35ºC.

Tropical nights are expected with minimum temperatures that will not fall below 20ºC in many areas of Catalonia.

Coastal and pre-costal areas are expected to face torrid nights, with temperatures that do not fall below 25ºC.

Santi Segalà, the head of forecasting at Meteocat, commented that while there will not be an official warning after Wednesday, it is important to acknowledge that temperatures will remain above the climate average until mid-July.

The heat forecast from July 5 is a product of a mass of very warm air traveling from North Africa.

The previous heat wave that swept through Catalonia attributed to 130 deaths
