Mataró begins installing Christmas lights in the middle of August
Council opted to carry out the work during the summer when traffic is lighter

The city council of Mataró has started putting up Christmas lights in the middle of August.
In some streets in the center of this seaside city, just 50 minutes north of Barcelona, decorations are already on display.
Town center streets such as Camí Ral and Camí de la Geganta had their decorations put up several days ago.

The work has been brought forward to install around 2,000 light points across all the city’s neighborhoods, double the number from last year.
Given the scale of the installation, which spans about 13,500 meters of lighting lines, the council opted to carry out the work during the summer when traffic is lighter, as road closures are often required.
The purchase and installation of the lights, all of which are energy-efficient, represents an investment of €500,000.
