June sees temperatures at Barcelona weather station surpass 35°C record four times
2022 and 2003 saw the threshold passed twice, while it occurred three times in 2019

Temperatures of 35ºC or more were seen in Barcelona's Fabra Observatory a record four times this June.
This is the highest number of days surpassing that heat threshold for any month of June in the weather station's 112 years of data.
The temperature was surpassed three times in June 2019, while it was also reached twice in both 2022 and 2003.
The Fabra Observatory weather station is located in the Collserola Park.
Down the years, exceeding this threshold has been far more likely to occur between late July and mid-August.
June 21 and 22, 2003, saw temperatures of 35ºC and 35.4ºC. In 2019, there were three consecutive days of the extreme heat, on June 27, 28, and 29. Meanwhile in 2022, there were two days in a row that surpassed the 35ºC mark, June 16 and 17.
Catalonia sees more 35ºC days
Across Catalonia, 40 Meteocat weather stations – one in five in operation – saw more days exceed 35ºC in June this year than ever before.
In addition, a dozen locations broke their historical temperature record this month, especially on the coast. In the Raval neighborhood of Barcelona, every night of June was tropical, meaning temperatures never fell below 20ºC.
Highs surpassed 40ºC in Alcarràs on June 21, in several points in the Ponent area on the day of Sant Joan last week, and in Alt Empordà the following day.
The highest temperature in Catalonia was recorded at Cabanes, when 40.9ºC was felt. This value had only been seen six times this century by this point of the year.
