INTERACTIVE MAP: Dog beaches in Catalonia this summer 2025
Two out of three seaside towns offer space for animals during warmer season

Two out of three seaside towns in Catalonia will set up spaces on their beaches for dogs during the 2025 summer season. Of the 69 municipalities on the shore, 45 will allow animals on the sand.
Overall, 65% of the Catalan shoreline towns will have a beach for dogs, compared to 53.6% in 2023.
All counties, except La Selva (in the north), have at least one dog beach. Maresme, just north of Barcelona, has the most beaches for dogs with 13. Alt Empordà, the northernmost county, has 11 sites. Together, these add up to 24 places for animals to enjoy a swim in the sea.
Some of these beaches are open all day, while others have restricted access, such as Barcelona's Platja de Llevant. Dogs can only access the area between 10.30 am and 7.30 pm. Platja del Far in Vilanova i la Geltrú is open between 9 am and 8 pm.
Conversely, El Prat de Llobregat only allows dogs on beaches between 8 pm and 8 am.

A total of 24 shoreline municipalities of Catalonia’s 69 do not welcome dogs on their beaches at all, and for several reasons.
Sources from the town of Sant Pere Pescador, in the northern area of Costa Brava, told Catalan News that they would "like to” allow dogs on the beaches, but it is not possible as the town is part of the Aiguamolls de l'Empordà natural park. Dogs in the area could affect bird nesting.

In Blanes, the first town of the Costa Brava, they say that the current standards of the 'Blue Quality Flag' limit the possibility of having a beach for dogs. Local authorities also point out that they "do not have a large beach" to fit the area for the animals.
Sources say that "they are thinking about the possibility of setting a beach for dogs" south of Barcelona, in Castelldefels, but no decision has yet been made.
