Inflation in Catalonia slows in April 2026, falling below Spanish average to 3%
VAT reduction on electricity and gas to return from June after national interest rate drops to 3.2%

Inflation in Catalonia slowed to 3% in April, according to data published by the National Statistics Institute on Thursday.
The annual variation is one decimal point lower than in March (3.1%) and is below the Spanish average, which also fell slightly to 3.2%.
The drop is attributed to the fall in the price of electricity and gas, and for this reason the Spanish government has indicated that it will eliminate the VAT reduction from June 1.
Therefore, the tax on electricity and gas will return to 21% from next month. Yet, fuel subsidies will be kept, which will help keep prices down.
Core inflation, which does not include the most volatile elements, fell to 2.6% in Catalonia and 2.8% in Spain.
