Heavy rain from Storm Alice hit southern Catalonia on Sunday, leaving one person severely injured and 17 others with minor injuries, while prompting numerous rescues and causing widespread damage across the region.
The torrential downpour in the Terres de l'Ebre area brought unusually high rainfall, with the Santa Bàrbara weather station in Montsià recording 300 liters per square meter.
Despite the injuries and damage, no major fatalities were reported, thanks to timely alerts. Residents in Baix Camp, Ribera d’Ebre, Montsià, Baix Ebre, and Terra Alta received mobile warnings advising them of the severe weather.
Schools were closed on Monday, and local residents were allowed to work remotely and urged to stay indoors.
The impact was nevertheless visible in many areas: streets were covered in mud, with residents were clearing their homes, furniture and vehicles were damaged, and infrastructure such as bridges sustained harm.
