House prices up 10% year-on-year in second quarter
Statistics record the third highest year-on-year increase for a second quarter

Catalonia saw a 10.1% increase in house prices between April and June 2026 compared to the same period last year, according to the Housing Price Index updated this Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
The increase in prices, although slowing down slightly compared to the recently recorded figures that climbed above 11% in some quarters of last year, remains one of the highest since the pandemic.
The statistics published on Monday mean that increases have now reached double digits in every quarter since the end of 2024.
In fact, the Q2 increase of this year is the third biggest increase for a second quater ever recorded, only surpassed by those of 2007 (+10.3%) and 2025 (+11.6%).
Since the housing bubble crash in 2008 and until the last quarter of 2024, double digit increases had only been seen twice, in the third and fourth quarters of 2017 (+10% and +10.2%, respectively).
The INE House Price Index has risen continuously year-on-year since the second quarter of 2014.
Resale home prices rose by 10.6% in the second quarter compared to last year, while new homes did so at a lower rate, of 6.4%.
In Spain as a whole, the year-on-year increase was 12.2%, two percentage points above than the Catalan figure.
In fact, Catalonia's figure of 10.1% was the third-lowest of all autonomous communities around Spain, only higher than Navarra (+9.5%) and the Basque Country (+10%).
