Friday July 31 is the start of the August vacation season in Catalonia, and the Barcelona El Prat airport is seeing maximum activity

A total of 1,142 flights have been scheduled for the day, 448 of which are from Spanish low-cost carrier Vueling

This year brings 61 more flights than the same day last year.

Despite one of the busiest days of the year, the flow of people at the airport has been constant.

There have been no long lines reported at check-in counters or many reported delayed flights.

Manel, who is going on vacation with his family to Italy, says "I expected more chaos. We arrived quite late, but for the moment everything is going well."

Another traveler, Diego, could feel the shift, saying "you can tell it's not a normal day because there are a lot of people."

Saturday and Sunday will also see more than 1,000 flights on each day, with a total of 3,332 flights over the whole weekend.

Last year during the same weekend, 3,183 flights were scheduled, 4.7% less than this year.
