The government has announced the creation of at least 10,000 new places for adult Catalan language courses at A1 (beginner) and A2 (elementary) levels.

These places are funded through a new line of grants for town and county councils, and other organizations launched in July.

Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday, Francesc Xavier Vila, Minister of Language Policy, reported that nearly 400 applications for courses were received in this first round, which closed on October 30.

He noted that some of these courses have already begun, while others will open "progressively."

In his address, Vila highlighted the high demand for Catalan language learning and stressed the importance of involving additional actors in this effort, including associations, trade unions, professional bodies, employer organizations, and companies.

In February, the government announced in would invest €8.8 million in a new action plan to increase the number of Catalan language courses and places throughout Catalonia.
