The Global Sumud Flotilla reported drones flying above the forty boats heading towards the Gaza Strip on Sunday night, including one they identified as United States-operated

In a statement, the organizers of the Flotilla criticized Israel's response to their mission, saying "the escalation in Israeli rhetoric comes at a time when multiple drones of unidentified origin have been observed following the fleet, raising concerns about the safety of the participants."

The statement reaffirmed the civilian organizers' goals to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza and challenge Israel's authority.

"Israel’s attempt to label this mission as illegitimate is an effort to rewrite international law and conceal its own war crimes [...] Undeterred, we continue the course to Gaza, a people enduring relentless Israeli bombardment, hunger, and mass displacement."

The fleet of vessels departed Barcelona on August 31.
