First baby of 2023 in Catalonia born at 12.01 am on New Year’s Day

The first baby born in one of Catalonia’s public hospitals in 2023 was a boy called Zakaria from Palafrugell on the Costa Brava.

He was born at Palamós Hospital at 12.01am, weighing 3.180kg, to parents Meryem and Mohamed, according to Salut, Catalonia’s public health agency.

Yousaf was the first baby born in the Terres de l'Ebre region in the south of Catalonia, at 12.04am at Verge de la Cinta Hospital in Tortosa weighing 2.960kg. His parents are Khadija and Ahmed and they live in Aldea, Baix Ebre.

Álex Adrián, born at 12.25am in Can Ruti Hospital in Badalona and weighing 3.590kg, was the first baby born in the northern metropolitan region. His parents, Arminda and Rubén, are originally from Bolivia and live in Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Barcelona.

Abdul Jabbar was the first baby born in Barcelona city. He arrived at Hospital del Mar at 12.51am weighing 3.872kg, to parents Tanzilia and Amirgul, who come from Kyrgyzstan. 

Dayla Mia, the daughter of Mary and Álex, was the first baby girl born in Catalonia this year. She was born at 2.14am at Sant Joan de Déu Hospital in Esplugues de Llobregat.
