Some 30 farmers from Baix Llobregat have held a tractor rally on Tuesday morning to protest against the expansion of the Special Bird Protection Zone (ZEPA) in the Agrarian Park of the county.

The slow march left at 10 am from Sant Boi de Llobregat to head to the center of Barcelona via the C-31, Gran Via, Via Laietana, and finished at Plaça Sant Jaume, in front of the Catalan government headquaters building.

In the rain, the march caused significant delays, especially at the entrance to the Catalan capital.

Called by the Farmers' Union, demonstrators said that the expansion of the protected area to more than 1,300 hectares will seriously endanger their agricultural activity because it will not allow, for example, for the construction of greenhouses or control of excessive use.
