The fraudulent doctor that was arrested last week in Vic, in central Catalonia, for working in at least a dozen Catalan medical centers without a medical degree was employed by an ambulance company after she was fired from Hospital de Berga, the Catalan News Agency (ACN) has been able to confirm.

Transport Sanitari de Catalunya ambulance company sources said they carried out "an internal investigation" after discovering the 30-year-old woman was under suspicion.

The company realized her credentials were fake after receiving confirmation of the fact from l'Institut de Vic, a secondary and professional school, last Friday.

The same Transport Sanitari de Catalunya sources say she was then "relieved of her duties."

No medical degrees

Although the woman had begun training as an emergency medical technician at l'Institut de Vic, she did not finish the course.

Sources ACN was able to speak with said her forged credential did not have the director's signature on it and that the stamp was an outdated one from an old website.

Provisional release

Before working for the ambulance company, the woman was employed at the Hospital de Berga for seven months. She is thought to have worked in a dozen medical centers, including Barcelona's Hospital Universitari Dexeus and a clinic in Girona as well as at a health prevention services company.

The woman has been charged with four counts of professional intrusion, falsifying a public document, and usurping the identity of another individual.

Although she is not behind bars pending trial, she must appear in court every two weeks and is not allowed to leave the country.
