Doctors demand solutions to overworking in new protest in front of government buildings
Healthcare union urges president to negotiate and proposes to stop working overtime as a measure of pressure

More than 300 doctors gathered in front of the Catalan government building in in Plaça Sant Jaume in the centre of Barcelona on Wednesday to demand solutions to their overworked schedules and overall improve the quality of healthcare service.
The protest is part of the 11th day of strike action called by the Doctors of Catalonia union since last autumn.
Doctors are also protesting nationwide and the union supports these mobilizations, but insists that Catalonia has the powers to deal with its demands, and urges president Salvador Illa to negotiate.
Doctors of Catalonia has also called on professionals not to take on additional and voluntary overtime to highlight the fact that the healthcare system is dependent on their "over-exertion."
The doctors, dressed in white coats, stood for more than an hour in front of the government headquarters with a banner to demand the elimination of 24-hour shifts and a separate medical labour agreement, two of the main demands that have led the group to eleven days of strike since October.
The union says the government has not budged on its position during these months.
