Catalonia will distribute 150,000 free eclipse glasses at designated observation points

The Catalan government will distribute 150,000 approved eclipse glasses free of charge on August 12 at the official designated observation points.

The local councils and entities that collaborate in the organization of the official observation points will hand out the visual protection items.

The Department of Health emphasizes that safe and approved protective measures are needed and it is recommended not to remove them at any time, at the risk of suffering irreversible and serious eye injuries, which will not be noticed immediately.

The glasses can only be removed for the minute(s) of total coverage.

In addition, health officials calls for special caution with children, and to hydrate, put on sunscreen, and mosquito repellent.

Additionally, interior minister Núria Parlon has said that 700 police officers will be deployed for the eclipse on the afternoon of August 12.

Catalonia's transit agency recommends avoiding the AP-7 and proposes alternative routes, and urges people not to follow the phenomenon from the roads.
