Catalonia sees slight rise in inflation in May to 3.1%
Electricity and gas prices contain Spanish inflation at 3.2% in the face of rising fuel prices

Inflation in Catalonia grew slightly by one decimal point in May to reach 3.1%, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE) released on Friday.
The Catalan consumer price index is one decimal point below the Spanish average, which remains stable at 3.2% without variations compared to April.
The Spanish government attributes the stability of inflation to the containment of electricity and gas prices, while fuels maintain upward pressure due to the impact of the conflict in the Middle East.
The May update comes just the day after the European Central Bank (ECB) announced that it was raising the benchmark interest rate by 0.25 points to 2.25%, in the first rate increase since September 2023.
