Catalonia records one of the rainiest springs in decades
March 2025 was the wettest on record so far this century

Catalonia has experienced one of the rainiest springs in recent decades, particularly during the month of March, which was the wettest this century across the region as a whole.
According to the Meteorological Service of Catalonia, the heavy rainfall was caused by persistent weather disturbances that broke away from the general current leading to prolonged and widespread precipitation.
Strong winds and storms coming from the Atlantic caused these conditions. These storms hit the northern and western parts of Catalonia the hardest, but lost strength by the time they reached the coast.
In April some pre-coastal and coastal areas experienced dry conditions, with the Costa Brava and parts of the central coast and Costa Daurada being particularly dry, but normal and rainy for the rest of the country.
The northeast of Catalonia experienced rainy conditions in May, especially in the Vallès area, south of the Costa Brava, and parts of Alt Empordà, near the Mediterranean coast. On the other hand, it was very dry in the west.
The unusual circulation earlier in the month was caused by a series of storms moving from the southwest to the northeast. These storms became more intense as they reached pre-coastal areas.
