Catalonia recorded 42 deaths attributable to high temperatures between Sunday and Wednesday, coinciding with the heat wave.
In Spain as a whole, the number of deaths reached 213.

Just over half - 52% - of these cases required an ambulance, transferring the affected person to a health center.
The heat wave left highs of 43ºC in parts of western Catalonia during the week. This was the second-highest temperature ever recorded before Sant Joan by the stations of the weather stations of Catalonia.
Several weather stations in the western Ponent region, southern Camp de Tarragona and Terres de l'Ebre areas, and in central Catalonia exceeded 41ºC.
However, thermometers didn't climb quite as as high in the Girona regions, with a high of 39.7ºC felt in in Castellbisbal.
