Catalonia leads Spain in evictions, though number fell sharply year-over-year
983 cases recorded in Catalonia in the second quarter of 2026

Catalonia recorded the most evictions of any autonomous community in Spain in the second quarter of 2026, with 983 cases, according to data the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ), Spain's judicial governing body, updated Friday.
That is 49% fewer than in the same period last year, and it accounts for 22% of the Spanish total.
Of the evictions in Catalonia, 465 stemmed from proceedings under the Urban Leasing Act, which covers rental contracts, a 69% drop from a year earlier. Another 209 were due to mortgage foreclosures, down 24%. Across Spain, there were 4,474 evictions between April and June, 35.7% fewer than in the same period last year.
After Catalonia, the regions with the most evictions in the second quarter were Madrid (778), Andalusia (737) and the Valencian Community (629).
Adjusted for population, Catalonia again leads, with 12.1 evictions per 100,000 inhabitants. It is followed by the Valencian Community (11.6), Murcia (11.2), Madrid (10.9) and Asturias (10.1).
The regions with the fewest evictions relative to their population are Navarre (3.5), Extremadura (3.7), La Rioja (4), Castilla-La Mancha (4.4) and Aragon (4.5).
