Catalan police to incorporate 1,300 interns and hires 82 officers in coastal municipalities

The Catalan police, the Mossos d'Esquadra, will incorporate 1,300 interns from August 1.

In addition, the police force will be boosted with 82 more officers in coastal municipalities and new commands.

Thus, the Mossos will have around 21,000 officers in total, 1,625 more than in May, two months ago.

Catalonia's Interior Minister, Núria Parlon, and the Director General of the Police, Josep Lluís Trapero, detailed the 'Helios' summer plan to reinforce security in a period of "maximum activity," on Thursday.

During the press conference, Parlon noted that, in the strategy of the 1,300 agents in training, the force will also incorporate 82 officers who are not in training - but are already agents -, to reinforce the coastal municipalities.
