Barcelona's Fabra i Puig station closed after roof collapse

A false ceiling collapsed at the Fabra i Puig station Tuesday, injuring three people and forcing the station to close indefinitely. Renfe has pointed to last week's heavy rains and vibrations from recently started construction work at the station as possible causes.

According to the operator, more than 100mm of rain fell in the area, likely allowing moisture to build up between the roof and the false ceiling. That, combined with vibrations from passing trains and flooring work, likely caused the ceiling to collapse. 

In response, Renfe will remove the entire ceiling and expand the station's works contract to include the repairs. The station will remain closed until safety can be guaranteed.

Passengers bound for Fabra i Puig must get off at La Sagrera and continue their journey via the Barcelona Metro's L1. The collapse caused three minor injuries, two men and a woman, who were taken to Vall d'Hebron Hospital.
