The Barcelona City Council, together with the La Caixa Foundation, Sant Joan de Déu and other entities, have launched a pilot test of the 'Habitten' program, a project aimed at facilitating access to housing for single-parent families in vulnerable situations.

The initiative encompasses eight homes with the capacity to accommodate up to 12 families of 4 members with dependent children, and for a maximum period of 18 months.

The idea of the initiative is to provide an exit for families who have lived in one of the Urgent Temporary Housing services (ATU).

The ultimate objective is to promote the recovery of families by offering them a normalized environment so that they can recover their autonomy as much as possible.

The pilot test will last until March 2027 and will be backed by a budget of €627,877.

Of this, half will be covered by the Barcelona City Council, another large chunk by the La Caixa Foundation, and the rest will come from contributions from other entities participating in the project.
