Barcelona City Council estimates the cost of cleanup and repairs after the heavy rains in late September and early October at €26 million.

Cleaning up the debris left by the rainfall has cost €2 million.

Two strategic projects aimed at minimizing the impact of future heavy rains, one located at Font del Gos and another at Ronda de Dalt, are currently underway at a cost of €4.1 million.

In total, the local authorities have identified 104 incidents that require follow-up work, 16 of which are classified as urgent.

Barcelona Deputy Mayor Laia Bonet explained that these investments must ensure access for buses, cleaning vehicles, and local residents, while also guaranteeing the stability of embankments and retaining walls.

Bonet positively assessed the municipal response to address the torrential rains, particularly highlighting the importance of the 15 stormwater retention tanks in Barcelona, which were filled and emptied two and a half times over the course of just three days.

According to municipal estimates, they have capacity to absorb nearly one million cubic meters of water. "The torrential rains have confirmed that the retention tanks worked as intended," Bonet said.
