The plenary session of the Barcelona City Council has given the green light to the new Action Plan on Drugs and Addictions for 2025-2028.

The text proposes to reduce alcohol advertising in public spaces and on the public transport network; regulate indirect advertising and sponsorship in municipal activities; and limit its promotion in events with the involvement of the city council.

It also incorporates measures to increase inspections in stores of cannabis-derived products and an increase in therapeutic support resources for families.

The Action Plan on Drugs and Alcohol 2025-2028 of Barcelona, the 11th such plan since 1987, includes nearly 150 objectives focused on promoting a healthier city.

Councilor for health, Marta Villanueva, presented the proposal that aims to delay the onset of drug use in adolescents, reduce it among adults, and combat the stigma associated with addictions.

Alcohol is one of the main concerns, as it is the cause of half of addiction treatments and risky consumption has increased significantly since 2016.
