Barcelona Airport breaks May record with over 5 million passengers
Nearly 22 million people have passed through the airport so far this year

Over 5 million passengers passed through Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport this May.
The exact figure of 5,176,437 marks a new May record for the Barcelona Airport, and represents a 3.7% increase compared to May 2024.
Since the beginning of the year, the airport has handled 21,887,027 passengers, 4.1% more than during the same period in 2024, setting a new year-to-date record.

Of the total passengers in May, 5,166,741 were commercial travelers, up 3.6%. Of these, 3,899,963 flew on international routes, a 5.2% increase on May 2024, while 1,266,778 traveled on domestic flights, a 1% decrease from the same month last year.
So far this year, 21,845,123 passengers have traveled on commercial flights – a 4.1% increase year on year. Of these, 16,272,462 were international travelers, up 5.5%, while 5,572,661 were domestic, a 0.2% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

In total, there were 33,131 flights in May – a 4.9% rise from May 2024 and a new May record.
For the first five months of the year, the airport recorded 141,383 flights, up 4.3% year on year.
This week, the Catalan government announced plans to expand Barcelona Airport, although environmentalists have said they will fight the decision.
Cargo
Barcelona Airport saw a record May in terms of cargo, with 17,457 tonnes transported – a 10.5% increase on May 2024.
Since January, the airport has handled 77,261 tonnes, up 3.9%, marking a new year-to-date cargo record.
Girona Airport: 251,000 passengers
Girona-Costa Brava Airport recorded 250,999 passengers in May, a 15.3% increase on the previous year.
It handled 2,859 operations (takeoffs and landings), up 19.6% from May 2024.

For the year to date, the airport has welcomed 591,309 passengers and managed 9,334 operations, increases of 19.2% and 33.5% respectively, compared to the same period in 2024.
Reus Airport surpasses 190,000 passengers
Reus Airport handled 190,218 passengers in May, a 17.5% increase from May 2024 and a new record for May.
Since the start of the year, 312,899 passengers have passed through the airport – 15% more than in the same period last year.
There were 2,570 operations in May, up 8.3%.
From January to May, 8,364 operations were recorded – a 5.5% decrease from the same period in 2024.
