Some parts of Barcelona's Gran Via and Aragó Streets record around 50,000 vehicles per day, around 2,000 per hour, according to 2024 data from the city council analyzed by the Catalan News Agency (ACN), coinciding with the European Mobility Week.

The cross of Aragó and Bailén Streets is the busiest point in the city, averaging 55,306 daily vehicles, and reaching 60,000 if the average only includes working days.

The second-busiest site is the cross between Aragó and Muntaner Streets, Gran Via and Pau Claris, and Gran Via with Plaça Universitat. The latter is the busiest during the weekend.

2024 figures show a drop in transit across the city center compared to 2023 and 2019.

Outside the city borders, the ring highways are the busiest roads in Barcelona, with the Nus de la Trinitat area recording an average of 84,719 vehicles daily, a 2% increase on 2023 figures, but a 1.6% drop on 2022.

This equals one car per second.

Fewer vehicles

The Barcelona city council has over 800 measuring points across the city.

In most of them, 55% of the measuring points, the number of vehicles has decreased compared to 2023, with the Aragó and Padilla streets recording 15.6% fewer vehicles.

However, there are more vehicles on 36% of the streets across Barcelona than in the past, such as Avinguda Meridiana with Santa Coloma boulevard, where there has been an 8.8% increase.

Figures also dropped in 79% of the measuring points compared to 2019.
