A major agricultural group in Catalonia is demanding that progress be made on irrigation infrastructure while the country is in a healthy position regarding drought.

Between 2021-2024, Catalonia faced its worst drought in history, forcing authorities to limit water use across the territory.

Now, after months of heavy rain has replenished the reservoirs, irrigators' communities are pushing for pending projects to be finalized, warning that drought "will return."

During the annual ACATCOR meeting, held on Friday in Peralada, northern Catalonia, the president of the association, Miquel Àngel Prats, said that although the situation today is "very different" from that of a year ago, "every day there is less time left until the next drought."

"It is important that the administrations, above all, ensure the plans they have to help irrigators' communities so that they can face future droughts," he added.

The meeting had participation from around 180 representatives of different communities.
