The torrential rain affecting the area of Terres de l'Ebre, in the south of Catalonia, has registered unusual rainfall levels of 300 liters per square meter in the weather station of Santa Bàrbara in Montsià.

Between Saturday and Monday morning (11 am), Mas de Barberans registered 280 liters per square meter, followed by the weather station in the Ebre Observatory in the Baix Ebre county with 207.7 liters per square meter.

These are the highest rainfall levels registered during the weekend, followed by the Parc Natural dels Ports with 191.4, and Amposta with 150.6. The Ports Natural Park registered one of the largest wildfires seen in Catalonia this summer.

Based on data shared by the Catalan meteorological agency at 11 am, there are eight weather stations that have registered over 120 liters per square meter since the start of the torrential rain episode.

The Mas de Barberans had already registered over 190 liters per square meter of rainfall on Sunday night.

The situation in the Terres de l'Ebre area has forced the cancellation of all schools, as torrential rain left one person severely injured and 17 others with minor injuries.

Many residents said that the water level rose in minutes and that they would have to throw everything away.

The Catalan president, Salvador Illa, canceled his agenda to remain in Tortosa to coordinate the emergency.
