Around 50 residents and staff of a nursing home in Cambrils, a town south of Tarragona, have been found to have Covid-19.

The outbreak was detected after mass testing was carried out on all of the care home's elderly residents and workers. All cases, as of yet, are mild, and the Catalan health department claims the outbreak is under control.

The discovery of this outbreak comes as the death toll among nursing home residents in Tremp, a town in the western Catalan Pyrenees, increased to 45 on Friday.

An alarming number of people were first diagnosed with the virus there three weeks ago and the public Health Services Management company took over the nursing home only days later as cases continued to rise.

There are currently 89 elderly residents in Tremp that have tested positive, of which 12 have been hospitalized, as well as 43 staff members with the virus, although these figures could vary once the results of the tests carried out on Thursday are made public.
