Public transport prices in Barcelona are set to increase in 2024, but 50% discounts for regular commuters will remain in force.

Barcelona's Metropolitan Transport Authority (ATM) has approved the new rates that will come into force on January 15, with 50% discounts on T-usual and T-jove tickets.

This comes after the Spanish government confirmed it would subsidise 30% of the price of the ticket.

On the other hand, ATM has also announced that general ticket prices will increase by 6.75%.

The new prices will come into effect on January 15, with tickets purchased prior to this date expiring on April 30.

Public transport use

Forecasts by the ATM indicate that the demand for public transport in Barcelona will rise during the coming year.

In fact, between December 2022 and November 2023, a new historical peak of users was set with 1.076 billion trips, surpassing figures from before the pandemic.

In the accumulated period of 2023, between January and November, the combined use of all different transport modes exceeded 2019's figures by 2.5%, meaning it's expected that 2023 will be a record year for public transport use in the city.
